Greetings from our CEO: Momos, Warm Welcomes, and Working Together
As the CEO of HY+ – the University of Helsinki Centre for Continuing Education – it’s a real pleasure to visit Nepal for the first time. What stood out the most to me? The diversity of the Nepali people and the warm hospitality everywhere I’ve gone. And yes, the momos really are as good as everyone says!
At HY+, we believe that strong education systems are built on research and evidence. This belief comes naturally to us, as HY+ is fully owned by the University of Helsinki and works closely with its academic and research community.
Research helps us see what really works for teachers and students – not just in theory, but in real classrooms. That’s why it is so important that TECSES builds on research-based approaches.
But knowledge alone is not enough. Real change happens when people work together. That’s why collaboration is at the heart of TECSES. Together with Nepali institutions, educators, and our Finnish and EU partners, we’re working to support teacher education that is inclusive, lasting, and based on local needs.
This visit gave me a valuable opportunity to listen, learn, and build meaningful connections in Nepal. I strongly believe that a shared understanding is the foundation for lasting progress.
I was also glad to experience the strong team spirit in our Kathmandu office and to get to know the truly outstanding professionals on our team.
I hope to visit Nepal again very soon – for the momos, of course, but even more for the wonderful people. I also dream of going trekking one day and experiencing the Himalayas up close.
